Pilgrim Radial Fit Bolts selected on new era South Korean Plant

Samcheok Blue Power Plant, based in Gangwon province, is to be Korea’s first extra large thermal power plant, with a current generating output of 2,044MW, using 4 x 550MW steam turbines said to help Korea enter a new era cleaner energy generation.

With commissioning and first generation expected to commence sometime in 2024, Korea Southern Power Company (KOPCO) selected Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)  for their design of a power plant using circulating fluidized bed boiler and other top technologies.

KEPCO has stated the plant can be expanded to 5,000MW using a mix of biomass, renewables and other fuel sources.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction successfully gained the contract for Unit 1 & 2 for the station, wanting to a provide a bolting solution to be used on the turbine, Pilgrim were contacted to propose a solution and bid on the project.

Solution

In October 2021, following months of negotiations and design work, Pilgrim and Doosan singed contracts for the supply of

124off Radial Fit Bolts (Ø65, 71, 80 and 87mm)  including 4 single bolt tensioning kits and Pilgrim’s Mk12 Air Driven Hydraulic Pump.
